Who We Are

Located in the heart of Western Massachusetts, the Alzheimer’s Music Project’s mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia by providing a compact, mp3 player, and a personalized music playlist of their most beloved songs and artists. Research has shown that familiar and beloved music helps to calm chaotic brain activity in people with Alzheimer’s and they’re more able to focus on the present moment and regain a sense of his/her connection to others.

We work with families and caregivers in Massachusetts to create music playlists, that are “tailored” for each person – enabling those struggling with cognitive challenges to reconnect with the world through music-triggered memories.

We rely on individual donations, grants and the support of foundations to purchase equipment and music to continue this wonderful project.

The Alzheimer’s Music Project is a 501c3 non-profit organization led by Executive Director, Peter Acker. When Peter’s father –in-law was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, Peter experienced the difficult impact on his father-in-law’s life and his whole family. Witnessing the effect of personal music and the peace and joy it ushered, inspired Peter to create an organization that would bring this gift to more people.
